Krisztina Zur wins 3 gold and a bronze medal!

Congrats go out to Hovie SUP paddler Krisztina Zur who just paddled to 3 gold and one bronze metal in K1 world cup competitions over in Chech Republic and Germany over the last two weeks.

Briana Goodnight takes 2nd place at SUP Jam 2 Austin TX

SUP Jam in Austin TX went off on Sat, and what a great surprise to have Briana Goodnight just fly in from Maui, fresh off her “BOP” race in Waikiki and needing a race board to try out racing in the TX heat. So five minutes before the Elite 6 mile race we hooked her up with a Hovie SUP 12’6” Kernan Comet and she battled the 100 degree and paddled to a very strong 2nd place finish... Thanks for insane effort Briana!!!

Hovie SUP Kernan Comet Review

The Comet

The first time I picked up the board, weighing in at only 19 pounds, I knew it was going to fly in the water. I took it to the nearby inter coastal waterway to give it a try on flat water. At first, it was hard to find the correct foot placement because to be able to get a fast glide you need to sink half of the nose in the water. Like most race boards, it can be tippy until you get the feel of the board underneath you. Balance is mostly concentration on the water and making sure you keep the paddle in the water as much as possible. The Comet is surprisingly easy to turn, some wax on the tail is all you need for your turning stance to properly get the nose out of the water. My first race on the Comet blew me away by how much faster I was. When I finally got the board dialed in, I ended up placing first in the Womens Elite Division at the AutoNation Sup Challenge on Fort Lauderdale Beach. The Comet has changed my style of racing by being able to feel the glide of the board. All other race boards that I've tried seem to plow through the water like barges, the Comet has a fast glide and cuts through the water. You wont understand until you try it, find me at the next race to jump on the Comet for a test drive!

A race day for Amanda Wilson

Sunday May 8th, 2011 Auto Nation SUP Challenge Fort Lauderdale Beach, FL

I came into work that day fully prepared to sit in my tower and watch the race going on right in front of me. I knew it was going to be painful to watch the race and not be able to participate but I had to work. The weather was absolutely perfect, flat water conditions and light offshore winds. My lunch break came at the perfect time, racers were lining up for the Elite race, a 4 mile BOP style course with three turns and a run transition each lap. I grabbed my HovieSup Comet and jumped in the race at the last second. With all my adrenaline pumping, I had a fast start and was in the top five at the turn bouy. With Helga Goebel on my tail the entire four laps, I knew I had to push myself to stay in front of her. Finally at the last lap of the race, I could feel her creeping up behind me as she sprinted for the finish line. At that point I knew I had waited too long for this moment and I wasnt going to let her take it. I turned the final buoy and gave one last strong paddle to catch a wave all the way to the sand and sprinted through the finish line. It was a great feeling to represent Hovie Sup, the new Kernan Comet and the support from my sponsor gave me that extra push to do my best!
